These are a reducing areaofoil shape. They are designed to support a targa bar and could also be used as a davit for a dingy, as when they are complete, they are a very sturdy set of legs.

They are 900mm high and designed for our trimaran project. I have built many targa bar legs over the years and before this method I would either strip plank over a set of frames or make a mould. Both extremly time consuming for the amature home builder.

Each leg consists of 6 peices which when joined together, form the leg at 900mm. This is ideal for my boat because it kind of acts as a gaurd rail to my open ended cockpit and also allows me to permenantly mount various antennas and a small solar setup. The legs are mounted at 1400mm apart on my vessel.

Built into each leg is a 20mm electrical conduit. I have also allowed for a 12mm hole in which a small 12mm stainless threaded rod is placed. This helps to hold the leg in place when it is to be fiber glassed to the boat.

Fairly simple to get right. There is a 100mm (W) x 5mm (D) channel along each side of the leg. This is filled with 3 x 100mm x 400gsm biaxial tape. Channels are then filled, and then the entire leg is glassed with 400gsm biaxial. I then fillet and glass to the boat again with 2 x 400gsm biaxial tape.

Asthetically they look like areoplane wings on their side, a good look I reckon!

Each Leg Weighs less than 500grams before fiberglass.
