Small Galley/Storage Cabinet - Kit

Please Note: Whilst all 3D Boat Builder Kits come with a comprehensive set of instructions, some filleting and fibre glassing experiance  would be advised. Or........just have a go, plenty of informtion out there on fibre glassing techniques.

Small Galley/Storage Cabinet

This is the first of our galley/small kitchen series. This core could also be used in a mini home setting, or a caravan. It has been designed to be strong and practical. It does not come with any bench top. These can be purchased seperately, or you may have your own wooden one in mind for example. There are many  bench top options including, ones with a built in sink, blanks, where by you can make a cut out for your own sink, and other shapes and sizes.

Why use a 3D Boat builder Small Galley Core??

We built one of these many years ago for a 36ft Schoinning catarmaran. It was placed on the bridgedeck, main cabin bulkhead, facing aft. This was a bit of a challenge as we had to use strip planking methods around a frame to incorporate the curves and we remember it being quite a time consumimg process to reach a faired state, ready to paint. The sink was quite expensive as well. Using 3D Boat Builders precise cores, this type of cabinet can be produced in at least half of the time and save you money in materials.

There are various storage areas. Most are recessed to hold objects in heavy seas. The storage system is designed to allow you to set up your boat/home the way you want. Store your kit in the multiple generic type deep recesses and compartments. There is also a a recessed drain board which drains your dishes back into the sink on the top right hand side.

Finishing

Firstly the unit consists of 12 modular parts which are glued together with the supplied 8mm dowell joints. These joints line every thing up. A light coating of fiberglass (400gsm x 100mm tape is ideal) over the outside of the unit, including the sink, and then an epoxy resin coating only, on the inside, to seal the unit entirely, makes for a very  robust and practical storage/work unit. You will then need to fill and fair the unit ready for painting. This is not a difficult process and we discuss methods in the assembly instructions.

The unit can be glued, fillited or bolted into place. If you intend to bolt into place, you will need an additional layer of fiberglass at the bolt points.

There is a 40mm hole for the sink drain on the rear wall of the unit and a standard  sink drain hole has been applied to the base of the sink.
